What is Namahage L.A?
Namahage L.A. is the spirit of Japan in Los Angeles. We are cultural ambassadors bringing Namahage, Yokai, Yurei, and other Japanese folklore to life. We perform at a variety of festivals year-round. Our current creatures include Kappa, Oni, Yurei, and Namahage, but we will continue to bring new creations to you, as our time and budget permits.
Namahage L.A. was founded in 2012 by Robin Lynn and Jimmy Pearly Staley in Los Angeles.
After Jimmy’s grandmother Akiko passed away, he felt a great need to reconnect with his Japanese heritage. His partner, Robin, a history major, actor, and costume designer, was more than happy to research and create costumes based on various Japanese folklore. She has won various awards for her personal and professional costumes and costume designs. Robin, Jimmy, and their troupe of actors, stunt performers, and athletes breathe life into the various Namahage L.A. characters.
